Typestruck: On Women and Writing Machines

We argue for the gendered significance of typewriting and look closely at Stevie Smith’s Novel on Yellow Paper as a technographic text. The collaborative, dynamic nature of writing with Glenn–combined with our rich sources and archives–inspired a creative extension of the project in the form of a composite poem of typewriter references by women writers across time. This was a blast to research and write!
